What is Racketeering?. RICO is not any kind of military wing or some special police branch. It is actually a law. It is the American governments most effective tool to fight against organized crime activities. The word RICO is and acronym that stands for Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations Act. This Act facilitates the law and the prosecutors to hold the whole organization rather than individuals accountable for violations of the law.

"Racketeering" means making money with the help of unlawful enterprise and most of these types of crimes come under this general category. With the RICO Act, any person who is member of enterprise and has committed two crimes out of the 35 crimes within a period of 10 years faces the charges of racketeering. Any person who is proved guilty person will have to pay a fine of up to $25,000 dollars or up to 20 years imprisonment or both per racketeering count. Additionally, the cash that is earned though the racketeering activities needs to be forfeited and is confiscated by the Federal Government.
